    Comet Boys Win 8A Soccer Playoff Game 2-1

    The Hillcrest/Pelican Rapids Boys Soccer Team defeated Alexandria 2-1 in the quarterfinal round of section 8A playoffs, Saturday at HLA.

    “It was a hard fought battle, but the Comets played hard and well to get the well deserved victory,” stated Head Coach Rod Jensen.

    Alexandria with a wind advantage came out strong and blasted the Comet net early in the contest.   At 26 minutes, their persistence paid off with a goal attacking up the left central side of the field.  The Comets answered quickly with a goal one minute later off a blast by Luis Martinez from the right side, ending the half with the score tied 1-1. 

    The Comets scored the only goal in the second half off a corner kick, low and hard, by Luis Diaz that hit the pack of Alex defenders and deflected into the net, to go ahead and win the contest.  Taylor Isaac had an incredible game in the net stopping over twenty shots on goal for the Comets.

    The Comets now travel to take on the number one seed in the south, Sartell, at 4:00pm on Tuesday.

    Comets Dominate Bears 39-18

    The Hillcrest Lutheran Academy football team hosted Bertha-Hewitt on Friday night and dominated the Bears, posting a 39-18 victory.  The Comets had 18 first downs to the Bears 4, ran for 334 yards and compiled 397 yards of total offense on the night.

    Senior Skylar Voge got the Bears on the board when he caught a touchdown pass from Daryn Kirscht with 8:53 to play in the first quarter.  The extra point attempt failed and Bertha-Hewitt led 6-0.

    Theo Taylor scored his first of three touchdowns on the night with a one yard plunge at the 5:12 mark.  Taylor Isaac's PAT kick gave the Comets a 7-6 lead.  They never trailed after that.  Dalton Tostenson scored on a...

    Lady Comets Lose to B-E on Senior Night at HLA

    Hillcrest Lutheran Academy hosted their Senior Night volleyball match on Thursday night and lost to the Brandon-Evansville Chargers 3-0 (25-8, 25-10, 25-17).

    “We streamed the game live so that was fun for the dorm students,” said HLA Head Coach Laura Skaret.  “They are happy when their parents get a chance to watch them play.  Our serve receive passing was really off tonight and unfortunately that led to a 3-0 loss.”...

    Comet Boys Advance with 7-0 Win Over Pirates

    The Hillcrest/Pelican Rapids Boys Soccer Team defeated Crookston in the first round of section 8A playoffs at HLA on Thursday, posting a 7-0 victory. 

    The Comets came out very quickly scoring their first goal, just 28 seconds into the contest.  Luis Martinez picked up the ball in the center of the field and brought it to the right corner, where he let go of a cross to the far post.  Byron Varner was there waiting for a perfect header goal.  Twelve minutes into the half, Kevin Francoscored off an assist from Luis Martinez.  Martinez scored at the 25 minute mark off an assist from Byron Varner and then swapped roles three minutes later as Varner scored off an assist from Martinez, ending the half, with the Comets up by four. 

    Just like the first half, the Comets struck early in the second half.  Just 33 secondsinto the half, Martinez took a beautiful feed up the middle from Jonatan Stava and scored.  Five minutes into the half, Stava scored and unassisted goal.  The final goal of the game came fourteen minutes into the second half, Martinez scored his third goal of the game, off an assist from Quincy Undseth.

    Taylor Isaac was perfect in goal stopping five shots on net for the shutout.

    The Comets saw good midfield control during the game from Luis DiazEric Diaz,Jose Stender, and Dillon O’Sullivan.  The Comets face off against Alexandria on Saturday in the quarter finals at 1:00pm at the HLA Field.

    Hillcrest Loses to Henning 3-0

    The Hillcrest volleyball team lost in 3 sets Tuesday night as they traveled to Henning and lost to the Hornets 25-12, 25-11, 25-8.   

    “We knew this game was going to be a struggle,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Laura Skaret.  “The girls were playing really well in the first game until the score was 10-11, they had a great server and we just couldn't get a good pass or set off her serve.  We fell apart from then until the end of the match.  Henning was playing very smart tonight.
