The Hillcrest/Pelican Rapids Boys Soccer Team defeated Alexandria 2-1 in the quarterfinal round of section 8A playoffs, Saturday at HLA.

“It was a hard fought battle, but the Comets played hard and well to get the well deserved victory,” stated Head Coach Rod Jensen.

Alexandria with a wind advantage came out strong and blasted the Comet net early in the contest.   At 26 minutes, their persistence paid off with a goal attacking up the left central side of the field.  The Comets answered quickly with a goal one minute later off a blast by Luis Martinez from the right side, ending the half with the score tied 1-1.

The Comets scored the only goal in the second half off a corner kick, low and hard, by Luis Diaz that hit the pack of Alex defenders and deflected into the net, to go ahead and win the contest.  Taylor Isaac had an incredible game in the net stopping over twenty shots on goal for the Comets.

The Comets now travel to take on the number one seed in the south, Sartell, at 4:00pm on Tuesday.
