Hillcrest Girls Fall at Home

The Hillcrest girls basketball team fell to Verndale on Thursday night 64-37 at the Student Activities Center at Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in Fergus Falls.  The Pirates shot 44% (27/61) from the field and came up with 19 steals in the contest.  They also held a 32-19 edge on the boards.  Verndale led 39-20 at halftime and outscored the lady Comets 25-18 over the final eighteen minutes.

Comet Boys Top Cowboys

The Hillcrest boys basketball team hosted Breckenridge on Tuesday night and placed four players in double figures on the way to a 71-57 non-conference victory over the Cowboys.

Chargers Come From Behind to Beat Comets

The Brandon-Evansville Chargers Boys Basketball Team rallied from a 28-19 halftime deficit to defeat the Hillcrest Lutheran Academy Comets 54-47.

The Chargers benefited from a balanced scoring attack.  Three players were in double figures led by John Haseman's 21 points.  Patrick Schaffer added a career high 18.  Blake Satterlie made four 3 pointers for 12 points.  Billie Juul and Schaffer each dished out 4 assists.  Haseman grabbed half of the Chargers 20 rebounds.  The Chargers shot 49% (19/39) from the field and 55% (11/20) from the free throw line.

Owls Defeat Lady Comets

The Hancock Owls paid a visit to Fergus Falls on Valentines Day night where they recorded a 62-48 non-conference girls basketball victory over the Hillcrest Comets.
 
Hancock shot a blistering 48% (27/56) from the field with senior Courtney Greinerscoring 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting.  She completed her double-double by pulling down 15 rebounds.  Greiner also blocked 3 shots and had 3 steals.  Freshman Lexi Steege scored 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting and came up with a team high 4 steals.  Junior Sami Schmidgall scored 9 points and dished out a team leading 4 assists.

Comet Girls Fall at Home to C-G-B

The Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley Wolverines defeated the Hillcrest Comets 50-44 in a non-conference girls basketball game on Tuesday night in Fergus Falls.  The Wolverines held a 27-22 halftime lead and outscored the Comets 23-22 over the final eighteen minutes of play.

Comet Boys Win in Underwood

The Hillcrest boys basketball team avenged an earlier season loss to Underwood with a 45-31 victory over the Rockets on Tuesday night in Underwood.  The Comets held the Rockets to 31% shooting on the night and won the battle of the boards, 25-16.  Hillcrest made 44% (17/39) of their field goal attempts.

Hillcrest Boys Basketball

The Hillcrest Boys Basketball team is the Pizza Ranch Restaurant Team of the Week.
 
The Comets won two games this past week, running their winning streak to four and improving their overall record to 8-7 and the Little Eight Conference mark to 7-3.

Otter Tail Nordic Ski Season Ends

The Otter Tail Nordic Ski team ended their season with their Section 8 championships at Camp Ripley on Tuesday and the makeup of their Central Lakes Conference meet, which they hosted at Spidahl's Skigaard on Friday, February 8.  Their meatball dinner annual fundraiser which was scheduled for Sunday night has been postponed and will be rescheduled.

Hillcrest Boys Beat Ashby for 4th Straight Win

The Ashby boys basketball team suffered their fourth loss of the season and second Little Eight Conference loss Friday night at the hands of the Hillcrest Comets. The Comets recorded their fourth straight win and pulled to within a half game of the Arrows and Battle Lake in the conference standing.

Lady Chargers Beat Hillcrest

The Brandon/Evansville girls basketball team recorded a 62-44 win over Hillcrest Lutheran Academy on Thursday night.

The Chargers shot 40% (19/47) from the field and made 17-of-22 free throws. Emma Friedrich led B/E with 17 points and 9 rebounds.  Megan Friedrich finished with 10 points and 6 boards and Carlie Steffenson had 13 points.  Elizabeth Vinson contributed 9 points and dished out four assists.

The Hillcrest boys basketball team paid a visit to Battle Lake on Monday night and did something that hasn't happened too often in recent years, they handed the Battlers a 41-36 loss on their home court.

Daniel Nersten

Junior Daniel Nersten of the Hillcrest boys basketball team is the Olson Oil Company Athlete of the Week.
 
Nersten reached 1,000 career points with a 30 point effort against Parkers Prairie on Friday night as the Comets defeated the Panthers 76-48 in a Little Eight Conference contest.  Nersten made 12-of-17 field goal attempts and connected on 6-of-6 free throws.  Nersten completed a double-double by grabbing 10 rebounds in the game.

Comet Boys Win for 3rd time in last 4

The Hillcrest boys basketball team earned their third win in the last four games when they defeated the Hancock Owls 55-49 on Saturday afternoon at the UM-Morris.
 
The Comets trailed 22-20 at halftime but outscored the Owls 35-27 over the final eighteen minutes.  Daniel Nersten poured in 20 points, making 5-of-9 shots from the floor and hitting all ten of his free throws.  He also had 7 rebounds.  Dalton Tostenson added 14 points and Trevor Leach had 8 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists.  Sam Martens distributed 4 assists and Jake Isaac contributed 8 points a d a pair of assists.

Nersten Reaches 1000

Hillcrest junior Daniel Nersten netted career point number 1,000 on Friday night as he poured in 30 points on 12-of-17 shooting from the field and 6-for-6 shooting from the free throw line as the Comets went into the Parkers Prairie gym and handed the Panthers a 76-48 defeat.

Comet Men Beat Otters Soccer with 4-1 Victory

The Hillcrest Lutheran Academy/Pelican Rapids boys soccer team defeated the Fergus Falls Otters on Monday by the score of 3 - 1.

Tri-Captain, Luis Martinez scored ten minutes into the game with a 30 yard blast following a pass back from Chris Franco to give the Comets a 1-0 lead.  At the twenty- seven minute mark, Romario Moreno scored on a high looping shot from the right side, assisted by Tri-Captain, Jose Stender, ending all scoring for the half with the Comets up by two.

Hillcrest Lutheran Academy scored 28 first quarter points on the way to a 42-14 victory over Bertha-Hewitt on Friday night. 

The Comets first score came two plays after a fumble caused by Sam Martens whenDalton Tostenson tossed a 9-yard pass to Evan Newman.

Panthers Sweep Comets Volleyball

“We played a very good Parkers team,” said Dessica Veum. “The girls were well coached and had some incredible attackers.  The scores do not reflect my girls effort. We had some very nice rallies back and forth, however they seemed to always go Parkers way.  I saw some very nice in system plays from my girls and some scrappy defense. We made some errors serving and some free balls into the net.”
