Marie grew up in Appleton, Wisconsin with her father who immigrated from the Philippines and her mom who was from Quebec. She is the youngest in her family and has three older brothers. Marie was introduced to Jesus Christ in a personal way by a co-worker her senior year of high school. The co-worker explained that Jesus Christ was alive and desired a personal relationship with Marie. This encounter was the beginning of an exciting adventure of learning about and growing closer to God that has continued throughout her life.
Marie graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire with a Biology degree. During her college years, she actively pursued fieldwork in Marine Biology and gained some practical experience working in a field station in the Bahamas and a Gulf Coast research lab in Mississippi. Upon graduating from college, she worked in the education department at Sea World in Orlando, Florida until the love of her life proposed that they marry and move to [land-locked] Fergus Falls, Minnesota. She married Gregg (HLA History teacher) in 1990 and they have 4 children--all Hillcrest alum or current students.
Mrs. Preston has worked at Hillcrest Academy since 1989, occupying positions as Head Girls’ Dean, facilitator for the Online Learning Lab, in the recruiting office, and now teaches both Biology and Health.
Marie loves diverse cultures that she delights in experiencing through travel, cooking and sharing international foods, and graciously welcoming guests from all over the world into their home. Marie has a true heart for the nations and has yet to meet a stranger she is unable to connect with. She appreciates praise and worship music in every culture and enjoys meaningful conversation with people of all ages. This makes Hillcrest the perfect setting for her to interact with friends from all over the world right on the doorstep of her humble little midwestern town.
Marie brings her colorful, effervescent personality and joy of life into her classroom, engaging the students to love learning and to recognize God in all He has created.
