The Approach

Ruby sat, uncomfortable in the straight-backed chair. The first words she heard amidst the chaos around her were, "Today, and over the course of our time together, I am going to present a case..."

Most of us would assume Ruby is sitting in a nervous courtroom, waiting for someone to layout evidence that demands a verdict. The situation described is what students at Hillcrest experience in their first formal meeting with their classmates. The nervousness is different, but the approach is similar at Hillcrest. Faculty and staff work to present a solid case for the Biblical worldview. Hear how and why Principal Isaac begins the year this way through this week's Principals Blog.

President's Blog

The 8th Annual Hillcrest Invitational Golf Tournament took place on a beautiful sunny Friday, June 15that the Pebble Lake Golf Course. Participants traveled from Jamestown, Fargo/Moorhead, Minneapolis, and local surrounding areas to support Hillcrest Academy and the community through this fundraiser.

Visit the President's Blog to hear more about the Golf tournament, see pictures from the event and understand the support Hillcrest receives from alumni and friends as we connect parents to the mission of Hillcrest, equipping students for a life of significance.

School Prep

Families who are traveling to Hillcrest are to fill out an arrival notice form on the Hillcrest website. This form communicates if the family needs transportation assistance from an airport and also communicates to our dormitory staff the arrival time of students traveling by vehicle.

Students traveling from Norway need not complete this form, as they are traveling together. Families traveling by car are encouraged to complete this form with an approximate arrival time and date to enable assistance by the dormitory staff.

Any questions regarding travel and transportation should be directed to Sharlene Schmidt in the Finance office (sschmidt@ffhillcrest.org | 218.739.3371)

College Corner

As the school year starts, many families begin thinking about the opportunity for high school students to take college classes. In this weeks College Corner we introduce an alternative to traditional college classes through the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP). CLEP offers the opportunity for students to receive college credit for what they already know. Students are able to earn qualifying scores on up to 33 introductory-level college subject examinations and accelerate their education.
Exams run 90-minutes and cost only $77 each. Administered at 1,700 test centers, exams can earn students college credit which is accepted at 2,900 colleges and universities. CLEP offers exams covering material taught in courses that is generally taught in the first two years of college. Most CLEP exams are designed to correspond to one-semester courses, although some correspond to full-year or two-year courses.

For more information regarding CLEP exams, visit the CLEP website here>>. Hillcrest has provided assistance for students to complete the exam. If you would like more information or to request assistance for your student to study for and take a CLEP exam, please contact Ruth Juliot via email (rjuliot@ffhillcrest.org)
