Why do you teach at Hillcrest?
I believe teaching is one of my gifts and how
nice to be able to use that to also make a living. With the experience I
have in teaching Bible, as well as living in a Spanish speaking country
for many years, I have a good background for the subjects I teach. Educational Background
A large, Pietistic Lutheran family
in Northern Minnesota gives a pretty good idea of influences
that have shaped my childhood and youth. Though by no means
was it without weaknesses, I thank God for that upbringing.
I also had old-fashioned heavy duty confirmation training
and an evangelistic pastor and church that helped bring me
to personal faith in Jesus. Schooling: McIntosh High School,
Lutheran Brethren Bible School 2 years, Eastern Montana
College in Billings, MT, Lay Ministry Training Center in
Roseville, MN and Seminary Training at LBS.
Work Experience
I worked a couple
of years in house construction after college, getting married to Paula
Robert, a Montana girl, in the meantime. We lived in Minneapolis, Cuernaca,
Mexico and Winooski, VT in preparation for going overseas as missionaries
to Ecuador, where we spent most of the next 20 years. My responsibilities
were in high school teaching and administration, Bible School training,
church planting and treasurer work. It always amazed me that God called a
sheltered farm kid from rural MN and privileged me to share him in a large
city in another country. How good He is!
Family
How does it happen that the children get older each year but we parents
don't . . . do we? My wife is director of a Christian pregnancy center. I
have a son at a community college in Minneapolis and a daughter at Bible
School in Minneapolis. Finally, I am blessed to have two of my own children
studying at Hillcrest, a daughter in 11th and one in 8th grade.
Activities
I love to be outdoors. That especially
includes going walking with my wife, fishing or hunting. I also enjoy
carpentry work, putting up wood, doing crossword puzzles and reading.
Dreams & Goals
I want students to catch the joy and
satisfaction of learning in both Bible and Spanish. I want them to grow in
knowing Jesus, whom to know is life eternal. I want them to become world
Christians (not worldly mind you!) and as such, I teach and share, and I also
pray some will become missionaries. |
