After a disastrous outing in Wheaton the previous day (a 14-0 no-hit loss), the Hillcrest Comets bounced back nicely to defeat the Chokio-Alberta Spartans on Thursday, 8-6. Clifford Vestol's two-run single capped a 4-run rally in the 7th inning. He also earned the victory on the mound by getting the last 5 outs.

The game-winning rally began when Danny Tungseth reached on an error to lead off the 7th. After a flyout, Zach Nersten doubled to centerfield, his third hit of the game, scoring Danny from first. After a passed ball moved Nersten to third, Devon Apgar tied the game with a sacrifice fly. With 2 outs, Ethan Wentzel singled, Andy Stender walked, and Nick Castro had an infield hit to load the bases, setting up Vestol's game-winning heroics.

The Spartans had taken the lead in the bottom of the 6th when Alex Erickson singled and stole second. The next two batters walked and Erickson scored on a wild pitch to tie the game 4-4. Vestol then relieved Mark Undseth. Another run scored on a passed ball, and Zach Gibson had a run-scoring double to make it 6-4.

Alex Erickson went 3 for 5 for C-A with two stolen bases. The Comets were led by Zach Nersten (3 for 4 with 3 RBI's), Danny Tungseth (2 for 4 with 3 runs scored), Joe Ommundsen (2 for 4), and Andy Stender (2 for 3).

Devon Apgar started for the Comets but pirched just 1 and 2/3 innings. Mark Undseth pitched the middle 3 and 2/3, and Vestol got the last 5 outs and the win. Aaron Vold went the distance for the Spartans, allowing 14 hits, 2 walks, 3 K's, and 8 runs (4 unearned).

The Comets are now 6-5 in the Pheasant Conference. They will host Ortonville in a doubleheader on Monday at 4:00pm at American Legion Field at DeLagoon Park.
