Ortonville defeated Hillcrest by identical 7-5 scores in a doubleheader sweep on a windy day at Legion Field Monday night. The Trojans put up 4 runs in the first and 3 in the 4th inning to account for all the runs in Game 1. In Game 2 they scored 4 in the 2nd and 3 in the bottom of the 6th on a bases loaded double by Tim Larson to account for the winning margin.

Errors at crucial times for the Comets opened the flood gates as 7 of Ortonville's 14 runs on the night were unearned. "We simply can't keep giving team extra outs and expect to win," said Coach Steve Undseth after the game. "We also have to come up with some clutch hits." Twice the Comets loaded the bases with nobody out and came away with just one run in Game 2, leaving a total of 8 runners left in scoring position for the game.

Clifford Vestol in Game 1 and Zach Nersten in Game 2 were victims of the erratic support in the field and at the plate. Kevin Castro pitched 3 plus innings of scoreless relief in Game 1.  Mike Winther took the win for the Trojans in Game 1 and Chase Kuefler in relief in game 2.

The Comets scored all their runs in the first and last innings in Game 1. Mark Undseth led off with a walk, stole second, and scored on Danny Tungseth's single. Zach Nersten and Ethan Wentzel followed with back-to-back doubles to cut the deficit to 4-3.

After Kuefler's 2-run single and an error stretched the lead to 7-3 in the 4th, the Comets waited until their last time at bat to answer. Devon Apgar led off with double and Joe Ommundsen reached on a wild pitch strikeout. Mark Undseth singled in Apgar and Kevin Castro singled to load the bases. Danny Tungseth followed with a sac fly, but an attempted double steal and strikeout ended the threat and the game.

The Comets outhit the Trojans in Game 2, but they were not sucessful at bunching them together. Ortonville parlayed 2 hits, 2 walks, and an error into 4 runs in the second inning, and 2 hits, a walk, and an error into 3 runs in the 6th inning. The Comets were able to take advantage of a couple errors to score 3 unearned runs and briefly take the lead 5-4 before Larson delivered his decisive blow for the Trojans.

The Comets drop to 6-7 in the Pheasant Conference with one game remaining against C-G-B.
