After being down 1-0 in the first half, the Hillcrest Lutheran Academy/Pelican Rapids Comets scored two second half goals to defeat the East Grand Forks Green Wave 2-1 in boys soccer on Saturday in East Grand Forks.
Seventeen minutes into the first half, EGF was awarded a penalty kick for a hand ball infraction inside the Comet box. The Greenwave capitalized on the opportunity and took a one to nothing lead into the half. Six and a half minutes into the second half, Byron Varner scored on a non-assisted blast from the top of the eighteen. The Comets pressured the EGF net for the entire half and finally tallied with two and a half minutes left in the contest. Chris Franco took a long throw in, deep in the EGF end that traveled over all players and into the box. Senior Co-Captain, Luis Diaz, met the ball in the box and placed it in the back of the net for the Comets Lakes to Prairie Conference victory.
In JV action the Comets defeated EGF by the score of 1-0. Danny Franco scored the Comet goal in that contest.
The Comets, now 5-2, travel to Bemidji on Tuesday.
