The Hillcrest Pelican Rapids Boys Soccer Team defeated the Minnewaska Lakers Thurday at Hillcrest Lutheran Academy, by the score of 5-0.
Byron Varner scored first for the Comets off a pass from Joshua Gomescollo, thirteen minutes into the contest. Twenty nine minutes into the first half, Luis Martinez scored on a blast following a pass from Joshua Gomescollo, attacking from the right sideline. Just five minutes later, Martinez scored again, off a beautiful pass from defender Chris Franco (Milwaukee), ending the half with the Comets up by three. Eight minutes into the second half, Kevin Franco scored an unassisted goal, attacking up the left sideline. The last goal of the game came from Senior Co-Captain Luis Diaz, off a blast from the top of the eighteen.
Senior Keeper Co-Captain, Taylor Isaac, made five stops on goal for his fourth shutout of the season. The Comets launched eighteen shots on the Laker goal, defended by keeper, Ethan Anderson. "Anderson made several excellent stops in tonights game,” said HLA Head Coach Rod Jensen. “The Comets saw excellent scrappy team defense from Dillon O'Sulivan, Trevor Leech, Felipe Moreno, Jose Stender, and Eddie Mancilla."
The Comets, now 6-2, travel to St. Cloud on Saturday for a match against rivals, St. Cloud Cathedral.
