The Hillcrest/Pelican Rapids Boys Soccer Team was defeated by a big, fast, athletic St. Cloud Cathedral on Saturday in St. Cloud by the score of 2-1.
The Crusaders scored early, just a minute and forty seconds into the contest with a header off a corner kick. Cathedral maintained pressure during the entire first half, but was only able to collect one goal. In the second half, the Comets, tied the game at the 28 minute mark, with a goal by Luis Martinez, off a pass up the middle fromEric Diaz. The Crusaders answered quickly, with a goal two minutes later, following a throw in and a drop back pass which lead to a short blast into the net, past Comet Keeper, Taylor Isaac. The Comets had several attempts at the net in the final minutes, but the Crusaders held on for the victory.
"I believe the Comets came out in the second half, and played some of the best soccer they have played all year,” said HLA Head Coach Rod Jensen. “We saw excellent field play from Trevor Leech, Dillon O' Sullivan, Eddie Mancilla, andJose Stender."
The Comets now 6-4, take on Crookston, at home in Pelican Rapids, on Tuesday.
