In the Principal's Blog this week Principal Isaac comments on a debriefing session in the Dominican Republic. The picture above is a link to a short video in which Principal Isaac shares an encounter he had with some of the teachers at Sante Fe primary school.
Sante Fe is a Christian school in a remote village in San Pedro, Dominican Republic. The school has been supported by Hillcrest for the 4 years Hillcrest has been traveling to the Dominican Republic. When Hillcrest was first introduced to Sante Fe, the school was in a precarious position. Sante Fe was in danger of losing the land they were using to hold classes in a few shanty-like buildings that were more likely to fall on the students than they were to provide shelter from the elements.
Hillcrest's administration felt called to partner with Sante Fe. With the help of many mission partners, Hillcrest has given Sante Fe funds to purchase the land, build new classrooms, support their teachers, and this year gave funds for the school to build a second-story to their existing classrooms. The funds used to build the school have employed many men and women within the poor community Sante Fe is located, a needed boost for their neighbors who fight a 60-70% unemployment reality.
Take some time to hear how God is continuing to shape Hillcrest as He uses the school's commitment to making Christ known. You'll hear how Sante Fe's teachers have been encouraged to move beyond education to offer the hope of Christ, so much more than a diploma.
Families across the world have traditions they partake in to rekindle meaning and excitement in the holiday season. Hillcrest recently held the Christmas banquet, an all-school event hosted by the Hillcrest Student Council to honor faculty and staff and draw the student body's attention to the Christ of Christmas.
Families in the Fergus Falls community also have a special tradition with Hillcrest during the Christmas season. The annual Hillcrest Christmas concert is a Cross-oriented performance with narration between specially selected choral and band pieces. The concert consistently leaves the crowd contemplating the significance of Christ taking on human-flesh, having relationship with mankind and the physical world and dying on the cross to rise victorious showing the redemption we have in Christ.
The concert will be held at Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church in Fergus Falls Saturday and Sunday, December 10th and 11th at 7pm. This event will be live-streamed on Sunday, December 11th through Hillcrest's live-stream service. To view the concert please visit the livestream feed on the Hillcrest website.
