Mark Regnerus talks premarital sex in this week's Principal's Blog. The topic is something that concerns many families and staff at Hillcrest Academy. However, the encouraging findings from Regnerus is that the Truth of God's design in the world, when reinforced by family members in particular, can help avoid the trappings of cultural influences.

We encourage you to view the video and read a short commentary segment that will affirm the mission of Hillcrest, preparing students in a Biblically-based Christ-centered environment for a life of significance.

Semester Highlights

The first semester wrapped-up yesterday and trips to the airport followed for most students. The start of the year was a remarkable time of growth and connection for many students.

We have put together a short highlight video recapping some of the favorite moments from this semester. Please visit our Video Blog to watch the highlight and relive some of the highlights students have from their first semester at HLA.

IPBC Winter Weekend

Winter can be a time of renewal and reflection for many students at Hillcrest. We are excited to partner with Inspiration Point Bible Camp (IPBC) in directing your students to know Christ and make him known.

We would like to communicate to your family an opportunity in February for your student to attend a weekend camp at IPBC in February where they will be directed to think deep and meaningful thoughts about who God is and what He has done for them.

Please visit the Inspiration Point Bible Camp website for more information regarding Winter Weekend.

College Corner

Hillcrest's guidance department is working to help students move into the College or University setting. As part of their work in this area we have elected to communicate some practices families should work on in the coming months. This week we talk about Financial Aid, namely FAFSA.

Financial aid is intended to help families pay of college. The federal government has instituted the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as a universally accepted form to determine a student's Expected Family Contribution (EFC). Basically, the difference between the cost of attending a school and a student's EFC is that student's financial need. Schools try to come as close as possible to meeting a student's financial need. Following January 1, families can submit the FAFSA application. The earlier a student applies for FAFSA the more likely they are to receive the financial aid they need to attend their desired school. It is encouraged for families to apply for FAFSA online as it is quicker and often protects against errors that could cause a delay in the financial aid process (ONLINE FAFSA APPLICATION). Not all education institutions accept FAFSA, contact your potential college or university to ensure their involvement in the FAFSA program.
