Science Discussed Part 2

Kepler lived a life of significance, founded on God's word studying God's world. His story is fuel for many instructors who are preparing students to enter a hostile environment that does not welcome the marriage of faith and science. His story is an example of one of the many reasons why a Hillcrest experience is so much more than a diploma.

Visit the Principal's blog to read Kepler's story and hear an explanation of Mr. Jahr's approach as he leads the science department at Hillcrest Academy.

Hillcrest Highlights

Junior Kara Nash brought a video camera around with her during her pre-game ritual this week. Catch her gearing up for the big match and see what the practices are for the Lady Comets as they represent Christ on the court and to each other through their love for volleyball.

You can watch the video and other student highlights HERE>>.

Chapel Testimonies Abound

One of the highlights of Friday is Friday Chapel. Gathering as an entire student body the Junior and Senior high gather in the chapel to participate in a service organized by Hillcrest's Chaplain and chapel team. The pictures are links to specific testimonies given over the past few weeks by Seniors Gus Anderson, Erik Fercrenzy and Elisabeth Peterson.

We invite you to watch these testimonies along with the testimonies of others at our Campus Ministries Page. These stories give perspective to how God is using Hillcrest Academy to draw students closer to Him through studying His world.

To watch these testimonies and more please visit the Campus Ministries Page on the Hillcrest Academy website HERE>>.

1/2 Day of School Monday | Teacher Inservice

Hillcrest Academy belongs to MNSAA, the Minnesota Non-public Schools Accrediting Association. The past few weeks staff and instructors have been working to prepare reports for a number of different committees that will begin the first of many meetings. These meetings are a precursor to Hillcrest's accreditation meetings which will occur this spring to prove compliance with MNSAA's standards of accreditation.

These meetings occur approximately every 7 years as Hillcrest prepares a school improvement plan that forecasts a 5 year road of development. Hillcrest completed the 5 year span in August of 2012 and prepared a report marking the compliance with the previous 5 year plan. August of 2013 is being taken to develop and vision cast for the next 5 year span which will begin in June with the submisson of the school improvement plan documenting Hillcrest operating under MNSAA's accreditation standards.

A general meeting in the spring of 2014 will begin with a team of 5-7 professional educators functioning as MNSAA's compliance team. During the most recent compliance meeting the team from MNSAA conducted upwards of 80 interviews with parents, students, staff and instructors to gather a comprehensive scope to determine compliance with the previous school improvement plan. Hillcrest is anticipating a similar review in the spring of 2014.

Monday's meetings will occur in the afternoon following a condensed schedule consisting of all 8 periods during the morning. Faculty and staff will report to their various committees in what is likely the first of 3 faculty in-service meetings designated for the creation of the school improvement plan organized by the committees.

A parent presentation is planned for later in the year which will include the school improvement and MNSAA schedule presented by President Brue and Principal Isaac.

College Corner

Through an audit of past graduates Hillcrest discovered that many students elect to attend a Christian University following their time at Hillcrest Academy. More notably, many students elect a Christian college or University following a 2-year community college experience after their time at Hillcrest. Students who seek a Christ-centered, faith-based college, university, bible college or seminary may find the American Educational Guidance Center's online listing of Christian colleges helpful.

All of the colleges listed on their website here>> offer traditional on-campus degree programs.  Some also offer individual courses, certificate programs, and degrees via online education. All but a very few offer undergraduate and/or graduate degree programs for men and women who aspire to part-time or full-time Christian vocations, including church ministry and Christian education. Many also offer most of the majors found at similar sized private colleges. Students applying to a Christian college or university may be asked to sign a statement of faith and/or a code of social conduct.
