Digital Abandonment

More and more I am finding students digitally abandoned. Whether students are abandoned in things like education, being handed an Ipad and told to interact with knowledge via the screen rather than human interaction, or students arrive home from sports practice to find a family enamored with a glowing rectangle, the impact of being digitally abandoned greatly shapes how students view relationships, learning, and their own character.

In the Principal's Blog this week we discuss a topic that is more and more common in the lives of our families. We encourage you to join us in watching author Sherry Turkle, who's recent book Alone Together unites her cultural analysis gathered through her role as the director, and founder, of MIT's Program in Science, Technology, and Society.

Bridge Jumping Highlight

Hillcrest students jumped on a bus after sports practices and traveled to a local swimming location with Hillcrest staff.

Joining Hillcrest's staff, students watched as some staff overcame fears while others monitored the event from the platform and the water.

This event is a small slice of some of the mentor activities our staff do with students. Building rapport and encouraging new experiences, staff use fun events to create in-roads for deep conversations about life, faith, and learning that are bound to lead to deep conversations in the months ahead.

Principal Isaac | Understanding The Times

Understanding the Times is a senior level course. The class is designed to ask and answer big questions related to how the Christian faith is practically lived out.

In this most recent video from Principal Isaac's class you will hear a brief overview of some of the introductory material on belief and the impact external influences have.

Football Highlights Excite School

Hillcrest Football is very exciting. If you watched the game last week you would know. Grabbing a lead early, Hillcrest's guys played iron-clad defense to hold-off their opponent and emerge the victor.

The exciting part last week was the game, but students in street clothes added to the excitement as they played in the band, worked concessions, and cheered for their friends on the field.
