Comets Launch Podcast

I like to think that every day at Hillcrest is a good day. That’s not always true, especially in the middle of February. But what I’ve found is that every day is an important day at Hillcrest, and I saw that powerfully Friday afternoon.

This week there has been a lot of people changing addresses in our community, as Billy Graham would say. Billy Graham passed away earlier this week and noted that he was simply changing addresses from an earthly location to a heavenly abode. My childhood pastor and role model, Pastor George Aase also “changed addresses” this week. Pastor Aase’s love for Christ and love for people impacted lives wherever he was! On Friday afternoon we also lost a very important friend of our school and current parent, Mark Eckhardt. One of my favorite memories of Mark in my short time as President of Hillcrest was when he and his wife lifted their hands in praise of Jesus during our Christmas Concert. During the solo that Danny Isaac performed there was a general atmosphere of praise in the sanctuary, but Mark and Kim Eckhardt moved me to a deeper consideration of praise. I know Mark is lifting his hands in praise of our Lord and Savior today as we mourn and support the Eckhardts who will go through a very difficult road over the next couple of weeks, months, and years. We are honored to have them as a part of our family and we will continue to look for ways to support their family during this time. The seniors started on Friday by creating a card for their classmate. Join me in praying for the Eckhardt family, and take a moment to listen to the song that caused Mark and Kim to praise their savior boldly during our Christmas Concert. The link is below.

With the passing of Billy Graham we pulled out a story from our archive. I trust you’ll find encouragement, and maybe chuckle a little bit, as you are drawn back to a 1950s era of Hillcrest Academy and some of the shenanigans the students and staff found themselves in when attending a Billy Graham event in Minneapolis.

To close, it is February at Hillcrest. That means difficult weather and trudging through daily tasks that might, to some, feel heavy. The girls basketball team has been doing hard work this season, keeping their heads up in practice despite the result of some hard-fought games. On Senior Night there was a peak of sunlight on their season as they saw their hard work and diligence pay off before a home crowd honoring the Senior ball players. I hope you find some encouragement to keep the faith, fight the good fight, and consider the character the Lord is developing as we read through the Comet’s success last weekend.

At the top of the page there is a link to a new avenue Hillcrest is using to communicate. We’re calling it the Comet Cast. It’s a podcast of the week’s events at Hillcrest Academy. I hope you find encouragement knowing the ways students are interacting with God and His creation inside the halls of Hillcrest.

Thank you for your ongoing support of Hillcrest Academy!

Comets Remember Powerful Trip to Hear Billy Graham

Formative experiences have happened for Hillcrest students for over 100 years. With the passing of Billy Graham we took some time in our archives to pull out a notable story on one interaction a few Hillcrest students had in hearing Billy Graham. You may chuckle a little bit at the situation the students found themselves in after hearing the evangelist, but I am sure you will be encouraged that the same transformation happening today has been a tradition that continues at Hillcrest. Worshipping the Lord

The ending of this week was difficult at Hillcrest as we walk alonside the Eckhardt family who is mourning the loss of Mark following his battle with cancer. Mark and Kim worshipped God in a committed and powerful way. One event we noticed them celebrating the redemption we have in Jesus was at the Christmas Concert. We encourage you to consider worshipping the Lord in looking back at a powerful song during the Concert. LISTEN TO THE SONG HERE>>

Hillcrest Creates Podcast

Hillcrest launched a new tool to communicate to families. In hearing from some supporters that they would appreciate an audio option to connect with Hillcrest news, the Comets set to work in creating a Comet Cast that will publish weekly, giving you updates from inside Hillcrest's halls so you can understand what is happening in your school and with the students you're supporting.
