PRESIDENT BRAD'S WEEKLY UPDATE

I really love my ministry role at Hillcrest. That was more evident when I walked back into the halls Wednesday morning last week. There’s something about being in the hustle and bustle of student life that energizes me.

I recently returned from a very fruitful trip to the East Coast. I connected with donors, spent time with youth groups and potential students, and was able to visit a few close friends who are praying for our school. The trip was great, but returning home brought me so much joy.

Principal Isaac returned from an accreditation meeting last Friday with some great news that I’m very excited to share with you. Hillcrest has earned national accreditation through AdvancEd. This addition has the opportunity to open many doors for us in recruiting, while also giving our graduates additional scholarship at universities after their time at Hillcrest.

We also launched an initiative to collect stories from alumni to commemorate what God has done at Hillcrest over the past 100 graduating classes. Our Development team is pounding out some hard work to get a publication together for graduation of 2020. The class of 2020 marks 100 graduating classes at Hillcrest. We’re going to honor our past and current teachers next year. The groundwork is being laid for a very fun time.

In all this preparation I felt like I simply got to enjoy the work God does at Hillcrest. Last Friday I climbed through a window to shoot a video where our old fire escapes used to rest. Students stopped by to gauge if I would make it through the window, or would end up like Winnie the Pooh, needing some food before a good push freed me. In all that drama I got to connect with a student the Lord has placed on my heart. I am so excited to see what God does with the simple day-to-day contacts I get to have with students. Friday afternoon I was encouraged.

Friday evening I ventured into the gym before dinner. The boys are holding their captains practices. I saw a young man leading a group of his friends in grueling exercises. I was was glad to be on the stage watching them work out, but something else brought me joy. I love seeing our young men develop leadership skills that drive others to a deeper acknowledgement and appreciation for Jesus. Seeing those guys working out, and later connecting with their coaches to hear a brief snippet on some of the things they’re all hoping for in this season brings me great joy.

Yesterday I had hot chocolate with the students as they packed 197 boxes for Operation Christmas Child. You'll see some videos below. I am so impressed by our staff who line up opportunities like this for our students. God is doing great things in the hearts and minds of our kids.

It is with joy and gratitude that I send you this update this morning. I pray you find today to be restful and peace-filled as you acknowledge what God is doing in your school. There are simple miracles that happen nearly every day at Hillcrest. Thanks for taking a few minutes to praise the Lord with me in recognizing how the Gospel is not only being preached, but is being received at Hillcrest Academy.

Grace and Peace!
