Comets Hone Character With Multiple Shots in 4-2 Loss

Lady Comet Soccer entered half-time down 0-1 to Pelican Rapids after an impressive goal from a corner kick, about 20 minutes into the game. Entering the half in a rainy night game, Hillcrest would need to dig deep to keep from being shut out like they were in the first half.

The Comets answered definitively after walking from the half-time huddle to midfield under the lights. Junior midfielder Katie Holzner put the ball in the net quickly, with the assist by junior forward Ava Lindgren, setting a renewed tone for the game and for the Comets. Pelican Rapids girls quickly responded, working to demoralize the Comets with a quick score one minute after the Comets tallied one on the board. Over the next 15 minutes the Vikings pushed the Comets to a breaking point, scoring two more goals before Hillcrest showed resolve with another impressive goal. Ava Lindgren found the back of the net off a pass from Katie Holzner with six minutes left in the game. The Comets would work for more goals, dominating the shot attempts, but were unable to earn more points before the final whistle.

With the 4-2 loss the Comets honed resolve and fortitude to relentlessly work despite the score and time on the clock. It was an important game early in the season that is building character qualities Hillcrest takes to their next game.
