Comets Place 30 Shots On Goal In Win Over W-H-A
A dozen strikes from Comet feet hit the cross bar or top post, as Hillcrest launched 32 shots in a stunning win in Walker Thursday. Keeper Juan Franco from Pelican Rapids, a member of Hillcrest's team as part of the cooperative soccer program, needed to stop two shots on his net in retaining the shutout.
Senior Captain Jordan Foss started the scoring early for the Comets. Receiving a corner cross from Eivind Flude, Foss placed his forehead square on the ball and redirected it into the net. The goal, scored two minutes into the contest, created a quick strike and made a bold statement for the Comets who controlled the entire game.
18 minutes after Foss' strike, Marcus Hagen was awarded a penalty kick after Jovanny Ramirez was taken down in the box. Hagen's expert kick put the Comets up 2-0 after 20 minutes of play. At 38 minutes, Yung Ju fielded a rebound off a blast from Hagen outside the eighteen. Ju's rebound snuck past W-H-A's keeper to give the Comets a 3-0 lead at half.
Ramirez started the second half scoring off a rebound from Tommy Thompson. W-H-A's sloppy goalie play gave the Comets multiple second chances that they capitalized on. Ju took advantage of another rebound minutes later with a quick kick to the back of the net following a rebound off the cross bar.
W-H-A failed to keep up with the Comet offensive, commiting penalties across the field. Brian Villagommez was fouled in the box, giving the Comets their second goal off a penalty near the goal. Joey Coronado, Danny Martinez, and Sondre Kismul put exclaimation points on the Comet win, bringing the final score to 7-0.
The Comets play Melrose on Tuesday, taking their 12-0 record into October.
