The Junior High Knowledgebowl team is building the case that they are the team to beat in the area. Molly McGuire, Juliana Undseth, Sydney Batzlaff, Julia Adams, Thomas Zweirs, and Carter Mitchell are ruthless in the quiz room, and their aggressive attitude in solving tough questions is placing them in the top position in the area.
On Tuesday the group traveled with their 7th grade counterparts to a local meet. The 7th grade team, with Jonathan Nordlund, Micah Foss, Zeke Ihrke, Teryn Bosek, Wyatt Gilbertson, and Eli Hestenes, watched their 8th grade friends lead the way for most of the day.
The 8th grade team started out the day in third place. Their work in the written round earned a place at the top table, where they would stay for the entire meet.
Attacking some difficult questions, the group moved into the second round by winning 17 questions. They demoralized the first place team, who only scored 9 questions against Hillcrest's knowledgebowlers.
Moving into first place, Hillcrest saw their competition roar back. Proceeding oral rounds saw the Comets emerge from first place with only 10, 13, and 6 points in the following three contests. They finished the day a mere 4.5 points behind the first place team, outscoring the other 15 schools who watched the Comets take the 3rd place medals at the podium.
The Comets finished the day looking forward to more practice as they plan for their next meet on Tuesday, December 1.
