Accountability Check

It’s Thursday evening, and my blog is due tomorrow. I'm feeling deadline stress. I'm accountable.

But, I have a greater accountability for “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account” Hebrews 4:13).

This sobering statement anchors a warning to be sure our trust is in Jesus, our faithful mediator with God.

Jesus, in declarative statements and parables, emphasized our accountability first to God and spouses, children, parents, authorities, and neighbors.

Jesus, Himself, was and is accountable. In His words to The Father, He said, “I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you have me to do. … I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. … I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. … While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction…” (John 17:4-12).

We may chafe under the yoke of accountability but aren't you glad that Jesus Christ is accountable to the Father for you?

He paid the penalty for our sin. He is accountable to be with us, "to the end of the age," (Matthew 28:20).

Thank you for partnering with parents, alumni, and staff in entrusting our youth to His care just as you seek His daily care. For even in the most difficult of times, we have hope “because I [we] know whom I [we] have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I [we] have entrusted to him for that day,” (2 Timothy 1:12).

p.s. The HLA Board of Directors is meeting Friday and Saturday. I’m accountable to them for your students and your gifts. Pray for the directors as they lead Hillcrest in the ministry God has entrusted to us all.
