Hillcrest Track Breaks Records and Builds Something Bigger
Something special is happening with Hillcrest Track.
At the Barnesville Booster Invitational, the Comets didn’t just break records—they showed what happens when hard work, encouragement, and a team-first mindset come together. This is more than competition. It’s a culture of joy, discipline, and unity—and it’s turning heads.
Maddie Miller dominated the 200-meter dash with a blazing 26.88, breaking a record that had stood since 2015 and earning a second-place finish. On the boys’ side, Vincent Nash soared to new heights in the high jump, clearing 6'2" and shattering the previous record set back in 1986. The best part? Vincent’s been jumping for just a week. His previous best? 5'6". What’s happening at Hillcrest isn’t just impressive—it’s inspiring.
For the boys, Maverick Peterson continued his strong season, placing 3rd in the 800 and contributing to top-five relay finishes in the 4x400 and 4x800. Drew Fischer, Vincent Nash, Eli Walkup, Malachi Loveless, Maddox Haus, Landon Shay, and Isaac Hamilton demonstrated grit and teamwork, consistently placing across various events.
On the girls’ side, Kaia Fiskness flashed in the 400 with a 1st place finish (1:02.55), and Emme Berge came in just behind her at 4th (1:04.93). Katie Holzner pushed the pace in the 1600 for a 1st place finish (5:51) and helped lead the 4x800 relay to 2nd alongside Berge, Elsa Retzlaff, and Ella Knutson. Maddie Miller placing 2nd in the 100m (12.9) continued her standout day, and Hillcrest’s relays showed depth, heart, and hustle.
Both the boys’ and girls’ teams placed 7th out of 15 in strong fields. But more than standings, it was the spirit that stood out. Teammates cheered each other on, records fell, and the sidelines buzzed with excitement. Hillcrest Track is becoming known for more than their finish times—they’re becoming known for how they show up for each other.
This team is building a legacy not just in medals, but in character. They’re having fun, staying grounded, and learning the lasting rewards of discipline and encouragement.
The Comets head to DGF on Tuesday, April 29.
