Comets Continue Dominant Playoff Run, Set for Section Semifinal Showdown with BBE
The Comets are rolling through the postseason with momentum and unity, sweeping their first two playoff opponents in straight sets to advance to the Section Semifinals. Last Friday night’s win over Lake Park Audubon was another showcase of teamwork, poise, and confidence as the Comets controlled the match from start to finish, winning 25-14, 25-17, and 26-9 on their home court.
Hillcrest’s serving was once again a major factor, as the Comets delivered 15 ace serves and kept constant pressure on the Raiders’ back row. Elsa Retzlaff opened the night with an 8-point serving run in the first set, setting the tone for an energetic and balanced performance. Elin Retzlaff and Brooke Swedberg followed with key runs in the second set, while Stella Moline closed things out in the third with six straight points from the service line. Elin also led the team with eight kills and three aces, while Elsa added seven kills and strong defensive play.
Defensively, the Comets were relentless. Chloe Walkup anchored the back row with 11 digs, earning the team’s Ripple Award for her consistent play and steady leadership. The Comets’ chemistry was on full display, with players communicating, celebrating each other’s successes, and feeding off the electric home crowd. The blend of confident play and joyful energy has become the hallmark of this Hillcrest squad.
Now, the Comets turn their focus to their biggest challenge yet, a semifinal matchup against Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa (BBE) tonight at Kennedy Secondary School in Fergus Falls at 6 p.m. The Jaguars present the toughest test Hillcrest has faced this postseason, but the Comets’ growing unity and rhythm make them ready for the moment.
