Operations Manager

Job Summary

The Operations Manager oversees the department operations of Maintenance, Transportation, Facilities, Grounds, Custodial, Food Service, Work Study, and Health and Safety for the school. This is a working management position: the Operations Manager coordinates projects and vendors and also handles routine small repairs and upkeep directly. It is not a daily labor position (snow removal, custodial, and grounds work are handled by maintenance staff and contractors), but the person in this role should be handy and willing to pick up a paintbrush or a wrench when a task is faster done than delegated. The position demonstrates enthusiasm and advocacy for Hillcrest in all interactions and represents the school as part of the administrative team.

Position Requirements

  • Reflect the purpose of the school; honoring Christ in your interaction with students, parents, and employees

  • Provide an environment for successful spiritual and educational programs for students and employees

  • Oversee and assist as needed in department operations of Maintenance, Facilities, and Grounds; Food Service; and Health and Safety

  • Complete minor repairs and upkeep directly, including painting and touch-up, basic carpentry, patching drywall, replacing fixtures and hardware, and similar small fixes

  • Identify small problems before they become projects; keep a running list of campus repair needs and work it down

  • Determine which work is handled in-house and which requires a licensed contractor; do not perform work requiring a license or specialized certification

  • Maintain a work schedule of 20-29 hours per week, with at least 50% of weekly hours worked on campus during regular school hours of 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.; remaining hours may be scheduled flexibly based on projects and school needs

  • Maintain basic tools, supplies, and an organized work area

  • Plan and coordinate major campus projects, renovations, and repairs

  • Secure bids and contracts for projects; work within an allocated budget

  • Meet with Maintenance Technicians to maintain knowledge of current conditions, projects, concerns, and future needs

  • Oversee the student Work Study program; delegate work study assignments to students

  • Provide Human Resources with work study hours completed each payroll period

  • Communicate with contracted Food Service provider to ensure compliance and success of the food service department

  • Negotiate annual contract with Food Service provider

  • Work with contracted Health and Safety provider; coordinate visits and trainings

  • Ensure safety compliance of transportation drivers and vehicles

  • Facilitate safety meetings with employees

  • Conduct performance evaluations that are timely and constructive

  • Follow Matthew 18 principles regarding questions, concerns, or problems

  • Perform other related and non-related tasks as assigned

 Education and Experience

  • Experience managing teams and prioritizing projects

  • Three or more years of management experience

  • General building maintenance or trades experience preferred

  • Proficient experience with Google Apps and Microsoft Office

Physical Requirements

  • Walking, standing, and sitting throughout the day

  • Able to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally

  • Able to use ladders, kneel, bend, and reach overhead for short periods

  • Able to move safely over various terrain, between buildings, up/down stairs

Salary and Benefits

  • Hourly Rate: $25.00 per hour, 20-29 hours per week, year-round position
