Hillcrest Launches Hockey and Nordic Skiing With New School Year
The sound of pages will turn in a Great Books seminar and blends naturally with the scrape of skates on fresh ice and the rhythmic swish of skis on winter trails. That fusion is intentional. Our classical classrooms lead students in timeless ideas—truth, goodness, and beauty—while athletics transforms those ideas into reflexes of courage, temperance, and perseverance.
Parents often choose Hillcrest twice: once for the intellectual formation in the classroom, and again when they discover how seamlessly the same formation continues after the final bell. A sophomore might spend the morning debating why fortitude is essential to virtue; by late afternoon he is testing that fortitude in athletics.
This academic year offers two fresh arenas where thought meets action. First, Nordic Skiing becomes an official Hillcrest sport. The team will be Comets, competing in the Minnesota State High School League, and pursue state-tournament dreams on snow-covered courses that wind through silent pines. Program fees are still being finalized as coaches secure trail access and waxing supplies, yet families can expect official communication long before the first snowfall.
Second, Hillcrest boys will join a cooperative hockey squad with Breckenridge, Wahpeton, and Hankinson. The host school for this co-op will be confirmed soon, but what already excites families is the chance to play on a statewide stage without the burden of building an in-house program from scratch.
As the start of school approaches, prospective families are invited to tour campus and discover how Hillcrest shapes intellect and character in the same breath, and gives faith room to run, glide, and skate in building virtue, character, and a committed faith in Jesus Christ.
